Scouting reportwritten with AI from our own data

Retired welterweight fighter with a dominant grappler profile who sought to impose his takedowns and win on the judges' scorecards.

How he fights

Jay Hieron relied heavily on wrestling: he executed takedowns with very high frequency and good precision, while consistently hunting for submissions. His striking was low-volume and lacked precision, but he absorbed few strikes thanks to solid defensive technique.

Strengths

His primary weapon was the takedown, which he executed with tremendous frequency and effectiveness to bring fights to the ground. There he complemented his work with constant submission attempts. On the defensive side, his ability to evade strikes also stood out within the division.

Weaknesses

He lacked finishing power: the majority of his UFC victories came by judges' decision rather than by knockout or submission. Additionally, when he lost in the organization, three of his four defeats came by knockout, a pattern that marked the end of his tenure.

Where he stands

Hieron has not competed since 2013 and all indications suggest he is retired. He closed his UFC chapter with back-to-back losses to Jake Ellenberger and Tyron Woodley, the latter by knockout, after a total of eight fights in the organization.

Apuestas & Cuotas
