Scouting reportwritten with AI from our own data

Retired middleweight with a low-volume fighting profile who repeatedly struggled against submission attempts during his UFC tenure.

How he fights

John Phillips displayed a low-volume striking style with limited precision, not actively pursuing takedowns or submissions of his own. His defense against takedown attempts was poor, leaving him exposed when opponents brought the fight to the ground.

Weaknesses

His glaring vulnerability was submission: three of his five UFC losses came via that route, at the hands of Chimaev, Holland, and Byrd. Combined with his weak takedown defense, this shows the ground was where he suffered most, not in the striking exchanges.

Where he stands

He has not fought since 2020, the year he closed out his UFC run with consecutive losses to JunYong Park and Khamzat Chimaev. At 41 years old with five years of inactivity, all signs point to his career being retired.

Apuestas & Cuotas
